The purpose of this page is to provide a clear understanding of the evaluation criteria and grading scales for the DLP Exams.
NOTE: As a policy, the evaluated answer sheets CANNOT/WILL NOT be sent back. Any e-mails sent requesting these may not be answered, as we have stated the policy here already.
We keep in mind the challenges students may face, given the current online format. Correction is relatively lenient, with respect to material learnt at each level. Errors with respect to script and भाषाप्रयोगः that would have been covered in earlier levels are likely to cost more marks..
Please click on this Review Feedback link for a summary of common mistakes made at various levels and also good practices (It is constantly updated). It is recommended that those be understood well so that students can score better.
Additionally, an audit system is employed to ensure that the evaluation is consistent with our declared process.
RULE #1: Student must obtain at least 50% in each of the grammar (व्याकरणम्) portion and language (भाषा) portion
RULE #2: Overall (or TOTAL) score (grammar + language) must be at least 60%
Example 1: Ram took the exam and scored 50% in grammar and 80% in language, with a TOTAL Score of 65%. In this case, Ram satisfied both rules and hence, he "PASSED" the exam
Example 2: Sita took the exam and scored 40% in grammar and 80% in language, with a TOTAL Score of 60%. In this case, although Sita's overall score is 60%, Rule# 1 was not met because she only scored 40% in grammar. Therefore, she "FAILED" the exam.
The general grading scale provided below applies to ALL Exam Levels based on the TOTAL (or Overall) Score.
90%+ Distinction
80 to <90% First Class
60 to <80% Pass
< 60% Fail
Exception Specific to Pravesha / Parichaya
55 to <60% Fail - pending Improvement
This means, when a student satisfies Rule #1, but his/her TOTAL score is between 55% and 60% DLP will provide an opportunity for them to improve their score by giving a special assignment. Upon successful completion of the assignment on time, DLP will bump their TOTAL score to 60% and considered as a PASS. This way the student need not re-take the entire exam. Please note that this special consideration is ONLY for students who take the FULL Pravesha or Parichaya exam and not for Shiksha or Kovida. It is also not applicable to students who take Pravesha/Parichaya Split Syllabus exams.
The Rules for the Split Syllabus exam are a little tricky because each split syllabus exam is considered only half of the FULL exam. Therefore, to get a certificate, students must complete both the पूर्वभागः (Part I) and उत्तरभागः (Part II).
The split syllabus exams have been offered in the interest of helping younger examinees and older novices. To facilitate their learning process and to boost their enthusiasm, DLP has decided to lower the minimum marks requirement for each partial exam (i.e. 40% instead of 50%). However, DLP does not compromise on the overall expectation of a student and therefore the COMBINED Score of पूर्वभागः (Part I) + उत्तरभागः (Part II) - must follow the same rules as that of the FULL exam.
With that said, here are the rules for each of the Split Syllabus Exam (i.e., पूर्वभागः (Part I) AND/OR उत्तरभागः (Part II)
RULE #1: Student must obtain at least 40% in each of the grammar (व्याकरणम्) portion and language (भाषा) portion
RULE #2: Overall (or TOTAL) score (grammar + language) must be at least 40%
RULE #3: the COMBINED Score of of पूर्वभागः (Part I) + उत्तरभागः (Part II) must be at least 60%
The following examples will help you understand the scoring method.
