DLP Expanded Options And Applicability
Samskrita Bharati’s Correspondence Course is a means of reaching students who are unable to access a qualified teacher to learn Sanskrit. The learning is facilitated by the study materials available through various instructional media. Following this material, even without any additional aid, will enable the student to gain a good level of comprehension of the material as it unfolds in the prescribed texts. Subsequent to this, students could pursue options to gain further proficiency.
Samskrita Bharati USA’s Distance Learning Program is an extension of the 4-level exams conducted by Samskrita Bharati India. The change in format in the US is driven by

Please read carefully to go over all the material in the DLP site, as the relationship is established directly between the students and DLP. If you are a teacher, please make sure to convey this relationship to the student. It is essential for the student not to be at a disadvantage because of a lack of this understanding.
The DLP program aspires to enable a student to have a solid understanding of the study material. This knowledge is obtainable by one of three ways -
Attending Samskrita Bharati’s signature classes at Samskrita Kendram-s (Learning Samskritam through the medium of Samskritam, starting with basic conversation (L1) and progressing to
bhAShApraveshaH (1) or
gitAsopAnam (1)
Attending Samskrita Bharati’s S2S program, gaining the same proficiency as described in the previous point.
Attending Samskrita Bharati’s DLP Tutorial Classes (Learning Samskritam using the material in the prescribed text, where the instructor will use English as a beginner medium, but propel the student towards Samskritam as a medium during the duration of the course.)
Whatever the approach, the student has to prepare for the exam by themselves, using the prescribed text and accompanying exercises. Please note that any of the above approaches is acceptable. With respect to the exams, there is no preferential treatment for students from any particular stream.
The DLP program believes that a sound knowledge of pronunciation (without proper pronunciation, the script and language cannot be mastered) supported by a proper use of script (writing legibly on paper using pen, and in devanAgarI) is instrumental in learning and projecting the language.
The specific requirements for the exams are specified in the DLP Exams page. Please make sure to review them before registering for an exam.
While the eligibility for one level is the successful completion of the previous level, in reality, the eligibility is more than average comprehension of the material at the previous level. It involves fair mastery over the material of prior levels while pursuing the study for the next level.
