Self Guided Studies - Children (18 and under)
Guided self-study is a process where the students can start at any time, study at their own pace, and at their convenience.
For the Children's track, we provide video recordings of the tutorial, lesson by lesson. We also provide assignments for each lesson, and the students are expected to submit the completed assignments. The instructor will conduct regular 15-minute 1-on-1 sessions with the student, provided work has been submitted. As needed, the student may be accompanied by a parent (designated co-ordinator) during the 1-on-1 session.
भूमिका refers to a foundation. The basic foundation needed to study Samskritam includes knowledge of the sounds of the language, the script currently used by default almost universally - devanAgarI देवनागरी, and pairing the articulated sound to the written form effortlessly and instantaneously.
For the children track (Children and High Schoolers), the foundation class called bAla bhUmika runs for 16 sessions. After the initial foundation class, children can choose one of the following two additional 8-session classes
(a) kathA shrAvaNam, which is oriented towards enabling the child towards storytelling in /listening to samskritam OR
(b) pallavam exam preparation, as the name suggests, is oriented towards preparing the child for the pallavam exam. This exam will test the child on basic language skills such as - hearing, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and sentence composition skills (based on prescribed material) OR
(c) They can opt for BOTH
The syllabus includes letters, words, sentences and more - written and articulated form.
स्वराः - vowels
व्यञ्जनानि - consonants
गुणिताक्षरानि - pairing of consonants to svarAH
संयुक्ताक्षराणि - combining 2 or more consonants to svarAH
पदानि - vocabulary (limited scope)
वाक्यानि - sentences (limited scope)
कथाः - stories (limited scope)
श्लोकाः - verses (limited scope)
Much of the content is generic. A set of vocabulary, sentences, stories and shloka-s form part of the syllabus. When the student is ready, which includes fluency in reading, they may register for the corresponding exam called पल्लवम् - Pallavam - meaning young leaves.
Once the child completes bAlabhUmikA, they will begin the regular levels (same as what the Adult track goes through). The first two levels of the DLP series (Pravesha and Parichaya) have been split into 2 parts to facilitate thorough learning and understanding of the material. It is intended to provide them with a solid foundation in Samskritam. The bAlapraveshaH I and bAlapraveshaH II - each run for 24 sessions, followed by 8 sessions of Assessment. Successful completion of the study will make the student eligible for a certificate of thorough learning (tapasyA).
